Active Ingredients in Valbazen Drench Dewormer

The active ingredient contained in Valbazen Drench Dewormer for Dogs is albendazole.

Albendazole active ingredient is a solid compound poorly soluble in water and in drenches it is formulated as a suspension (not as a solution or as an emulsion).

A key unfavorable feature of all suspensions is that the suspended solid particles tend to fall down to the bottom of the container and sediment, very much like sand in water.

This means that suspensions must be thoroughly shaken before use.

Mechanism of Action

Albendazole works by degenerating the tegument and intestinal cells of the worm by diminishing its energy production, which leads to immobilization and death of the parasite.

This drug makes the parasites unable to take up glucose so their glycogen stores become depleted and then they die.

How to administer

This suspension should be given to your pooch orally. Depending on your dog’s body weight and type of parasite your dog is being treated for, the duration of treatment and doses vary from 12.5 – 50 mg/kg.

This translates to a few drops of the suspension.

The most suitable dose to use for your pup may be difficult to measure, please consult your veterinarian for appropriate instructions.

Note:

Thoroughly shaking this suspension before use is crucial for efficacy.

If the active ingredient remains in the sediment, your dog may get only solvents and will be under-dosed.
